Mission Statement:

The Physical Layer Transmission Work Area provides test plans, technical documentation, and marketing papers to enable multi-vendor interoperability in deployments for both access and in-premises networks.

Work Area Director: Les Brown, Huawei Technologies; Martin Casey, Calix

Business Impact:

As with the Fiber Access Networks work area, the focus is on cost reduction and accelerating time to market. Standardized interoperability and certification create a trusted base of equipment and services avoiding large investments in time, repeated customized one-off and NxN testing that impact revenue and credibility. Interoperability provides invaluable intelligence as feedback to both developers and implementers of new products and services. As the move to open sourcing gains momentum the role of interoperability becomes ever more necessary.

Scope:
  • Definition of test plans for access network physical layer transmission technologies (such as VDSL2 and G.fast) and Reverse Power Feeding technologies
  • Definition of test plans for in-premises network physical layer transmission technologies such as power line communications
  • Creation of best practice documentation for advanced features, such as Upstream Power Back-off, Self Install, and Vectoring

Reverse Power Feed (RPF) Test Plan

This document specifies tests for the RPF functions of a DPU and the customer premises' Power Supply Equipment (PSE) either as a stand-alone device or as a function integrated in a FAST Network Termination.

Test cases are mainly specified with reference to ETSI TS 101 548 and BBF WT-301 requirements. Furthermore they are designed to ensure safe deployment of RPF equipment.

VDSL2 Performance Test Plan - Issue 3

This Broadband Forum Working Text, WT-114i3, as part of the Broadband Suite, provides a set of region specific performance requirements and test methods for VDSL2 modems implemented in accordance with ITU-T G.993.2 (Very high speed Digital Subscriber Line transceivers 2). Its key value is in the verification of performance such that network operators may deploy consistent and successful VDSL2 services in their networks.

VDSL2 Functionality Test Plan - Issue 3 Amendment 1

This test plan describes a series of functionality tests that are used to verify that a VTU (VTU-O or VTU-R) is functionally compliant to ITU-T Recommendation G.993.2 (Very High Speed Subscriber Line transceiver 2). A VTU is functionally compliant to this test plan if it implements correctly the required functions and features of the ITU-T Recommendation G.993.2. In addition the VTU is functionally compliant if it implements the optional feature as specified in the standard. WT-115i3 also defines tests for some of the VDSL2 optional features such as dual latency and Seamless Rate Adaptation (SRA).

Testing of G.993.2 Self-FEXT Cancellation (vectoring) - Issue 2

This Working Text is intended to provide an interoperability/performance/functionality test plan for ITU T Recommendation G.993.5 "Self-FEXT cancellation (vectoring) for use with VDSL2 transceivers". Deployment scenarios in the scope of this Working Text include deployments from the Central Office (CO) and Fiber-To-The-x (FTTx) remote deployments.

The scope of this Working Text also covers validation of the functionality of the Control, Inventory, and Reported parameters defined in ITU T Recommendation G.997.1 for the related G.993.5 functionality.

Performance Test Plan For In-premises Powerline Communications Systems

This document is aimed to provide industry, operators, and test labs with a well defined test bed and an established set of tests that enable a performance comparison between powerline products and technologies that can be independently verified.

Testing of wireline home-network transceivers from different vendors or technologies should be possible in a repeatable and reproducible fashion.
