Mission Statement:
Excerpt

To establish common related technical specification for FTTdp in order to ensure maximal equipment and management interoperability.

Work Area Directors: Christopher Croot, BT; Sven Ooghe, Nokia

Business Impact:

The Fiber to the Distribution Point (FTTdp) network offers a number of new important benefits to operators and its customers. First, it allows deployment of FTTH ultra-fast broadband network without actually having to install fiber at the customer premises. This increases the service take-up rate and requires zero-touch provider provisioning with customer install, no rewiring and no truck roll. Secondly, it offers the opportunity to lower OpEx through reverse powering and remote connectivity reconfiguration. It opens up new opportunities to service multi-tenant/dwelling business and residential locations with different requirements. Finally, the ultra-fast broadband network opens up a new market for provisioning of high-value performance-assured applications and services. By developing specifications for architecture, management and interoperability, the FTTdp Work Area plays a key role in accelerating time to market.

Scope:

FTTdp access architecture, encompassing architectural, nodal functional and network management requirements for FTTdp access architectures, in order to drive interoperability and best practice. This also includes the specification of YANG management models for the Distribution Point Units (DPUs).

Architecture and Requirements

This Project Stream defines how an FTTdp network can be deployed from an end-to-end perspective and defines the requirements for the Distribution Point Unit (DPU). These requirements enable the DPU to offer ultra-fast broadband service to end-users using the existing twisted pair cabling. It also covers the requirements to properly troubleshoot the DPU and connect it to a Persistent Management Agent (PMA).

FTTdp Management

This Project Stream aims to publish an extensive set of YANG modules that allow managing the different aspects of a DPU, including the Gfast or VDSL2 broadband connection. This Project Stream also collaborates with the Common YANG Project Stream when defining more generic YANG modules that can be leveraged by DPUs. Finally this Project Stream also addresses the management architecture that will enable similar control from the PMA back to the network management systems and OSS. Overall, this work aims to reduce network management complexity.

FTTdp Management Interop & Testing

This Project Stream addresses the real-life interoperability challenges when connecting the PMA to the DPU, by defining an interop test plan. With this plan, PMA and DPU suppliers can verify whether or not their implementations are interoperable and can be used to deploy an Fttdp network.

G.fast Vector of Profiles (VoP)

titleAbstract ...

This specification defines the Vector of Profiles (VoP) managed object structure for G.fast. This is based on the managed objects listed in ITU-T Recommendation G.997.2. This G.fast VoP structure defines the basis of the detailed YANG data model defined in WT-355. The object model in this specification only specifies the structure of the managed objects, the detailed parameter definitions and their access modes are specified in WT-355 and ITU-T recommendations.
