The Broadband Forum’s Service Provider Action Council (SPAC) will be holding a Special open Service Provider Action Council Session at the Spring Member Meeting 2025 in Hong Kong, focussing on the topic of ‘Wholesale Access Services’. The session will be open to all BBF members and to non-BBF members as invited guests.
The session will provide the opportunity for Service Providers to highlight friction points and opportunities to improve the standards and specifications that enable wholesale broadband access services.
As telecommunications evolve to meet the demands of a hyper-connected world, wholesale access services play a pivotal role in enabling seamless connectivity and fostering innovation. The BBF invite Network Operators and Internet Service Providers to submit presentation proposals focussed on actual work that is missing from standards to support the needs of the ‘Open Access’ and wholesale markets. Some suggested areas for discussion but we welcome any other key topics from potential speakers include:
- Speed tests when the open access provider can only have visibility at L2 level.
- Security at differing peering points
- QoE measurements and regulator requests
- CPE device manageability and tests
- Sustainability and carbon footprint – targets apportionment in multi-player scenarios for broadband services
- Regulator relations – how to propose standards-based best practices for wholesale services to regulators.
- Beyond “BITSTREAM” – new open access approaches to allow more differentiation and flexibility to retail ISPs
- Network Slicing models beyond FANS
Presentations are expected to provide input as to “How the Broadband Forum should address the issue(s) under discussion with ongoing or new Projects”
