Mission Statement:

To produce industry agreed specifications of the routing and transport network infrastructure for applications such as mobile backhaul/transport infrastructure, data center interconnect, video distribution etc. This work typically being in the form of architecture, equipment requirements, interoperability and conformance test plans, implementation guidance and education materials.

Business Impact:

This work accelerates industry adoption of new technology and deployment of new services and infrastructure. The work includes the introduction of and migration to SDN and virtualization of the network infrastructure where commercially viable.

Scope:

Control, management and data plane for the IP layer down to the physical layers, including time and synchronization, OAM, routing, resiliency, scalability, security, virtualization of the transport infrastructure, and enablement of software driven networking. Current project work includes:

Technical Specifications for MPLS in Mobile Backhaul Networks
Amendment 2

This provides a new amendment to TR-221 which includes specifications on timing (phase/frequency) synchronization, enhancements on scalability such as support of multi-area LSP signaling and BGP LSP routing. This amendment is applicable to address backhaul up through 3GPP Rel.11 and beyond.

Achieving Packet Network Optimization using DWDM Interfaces - Physically Separated/Logically Separated Model

Network Providers have identified the potential to better integrate their packet and DWDM/optical networks to address growing network capacity demands, increase efficiency and reduce OPEX. This document specifically addresses Packet and DWDM/Optical integration.

Integrated packet/optical networks and network node equipment are based on a variety of protocols and functionalities specifications (e.g., physical layer, data plane, control plane, management plane, etc.) from different SDOs. This document identifies the set of specifications that are necessary for implementation of integrated packet optical networking equipment. The working text is aimed at fostering the development of interoperable solutions from multiple vendors to be the benefit of consumers and suppliers of broadband services alike.
