Home Automation has historically been the domain of the rich and famous. Now, consumers are buying increasingly more connected devices but have a limited ability to install or service those solutions, and have almost no ability to integrate their various home systems to create real lifestyle benefits. Simultaneously, ISPs have tried and failed to bundle services like voice, video, and data to create customer stickiness, only to be disintermediated by voice and data solutions treating the data connection as a simple pipe.

Fiber To The Room (FTTR), based on ITU-T standards, provides an enhanced customer experience by extending the benefits of fiber transmission to every room of the home or business. FTTR enables multi-gigabit, error-free, trouble-free, secure, low latency WiFi operation throughout the premises. Multi-AP WiFi coordination and management is an important part of FTTR. Service provider experiences with FTTR are discussed, including the range of new valueable services that become possible with an integrated home network.
